Re: Picking players already taken.
We will try to give you 30 minutes or so to repick, but if you pick a player already taken don't expect the draft to wait while we track you down to repick. Just a heads up as it is bound to happen a couple of more times.

FYI, Mike does an amazing job of continually updating the “List of Players Drafted” at monkeyspankers09.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=2013draft&action=display&thread=35Might I suggest that before anyone posts a pick that they please go to that list and double check that the player has not already been taken. That list is alphabetical so it should be fairly easy to just scroll and scan it, but you can also press Ctrl+F for Find and just type the last 3 or 4 letters of the player’s last name to help highlight any matches, too, or use the Ctrl+F find method on the “Draft Order And Results” list at monkeyspankers09.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=2013draft&action=display&thread=34, which Mike also continually updates. Of course sometimes those lists may lag a few picks behind, so you should also double check the last few picks as well. Personally, I find the most convenient way to do this is to click the “10 most recent posts” link on the forum home page to go to monkeyspankers09.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=recent and then use the Ctrl+F Find method mentioned above. Thank you.

FYI Brandon Morrow was placed in the wrong round by me. I have made the minor change and moved him from pick 24.10 to 25.03 (as a reserved player).

Got screwed on the Chapman move with Broxton. That makes 2 of us. Between that and losing both Hanley and Headley to injury, this has been one of my worst fantasy baseball weeks ever. That’s 3 years out of 4 that my first round pick will miss significant time: Kinsler in 2010 and Ryan Zimmerman in 2011 each were out a couple of months, too.

When the draft is over, all activity will take place at the Yahoo league. I should have all the rosters punched in by Sunday evening then I will send out a blast email to whatever email address you have registered at the Yahoo league site announcing when the league will go "live".
Whoever has the last draft pick, it will need to be made in the normal 3 hour time frame to avoid having extra time to get any late breaking news.
Good luck in 2013.

I will be out most of today. I forwarded Bensalem and Rogues lists to LOL and COM. Hopefully the board is functioning today. Just finish out the draft as usual and I will update the lists later tonight. Good luck, Dude.

Baltimore gets until 7:30PM PDT to make the last pick. Otherwise he can just pick up someone once we go live and have him as a 17th rounder/FA.

Hi everyone,
I would like to make the following rule change proposal to be voted on:
Proposed: Instead of slotting all free agent and waiver pickups as 17th round draft selections for keeper purposes, slotting should be based on the month when the player was added as per the following schedule 1. March/April: 24th round. 2. May: 20th round 3. June: 16th round 4. July: 12th round 5. August: 8th round 6. September/October: 4th round
Determination of the month will be based on when the transaction is complete by Yahoo; not when the waiver claim is made.
My arguments in favor of this proposal will follow separately. Thank you for your attention,
Dennis

Hi again all, I have been meaning to bring this up for a while; sorry I did not get to it until now, it has been an incredibly busy year for me. I thought we had some good discussion and ideas put forth at the end of last year about the slotting of Free Agent keepers and what we could do to make it more equitable. If you want to see the conversation about this at the end of last season, it is at: baseball.fantasysports.yahoo.com/archive/mlb/2012/55249/message?msgid=v1/mb/board/6fc37e06-efca-4d1a-9a59-5078c6e17d4b/thread/1349356492916-0f6a79dc-8740-42ef-b459-b4a3fe58d593. I think what Scotty posted was really good idea and I based my slightly simplified proposal above on it. It just does not seem fair to me that a guy picked up early on and kept all season and a guy picked up in the very last week are both slotted as 17th round picks. As examples: 1. Mariano Rivera was not added as a Free Agent by Augusta until October 3 when the season was essentially over, and was kept as a 17-L for this year. 2. Rorick added Carl Crawford off of Waivers on August 24 and signed him to a 2-year contract. Every year we are going to have good players like this who are on the final year of their contract and injured and out for the rest of the season get dropped. 3. Scotty picked Wil Myers up off Waivers on August 1 last year and has signed him to a 3-year contract. All of this was done within the current rules, so I don’t blame anyone for taking advantage. But I think the Myers situation is especially unfortunate. Yahoo is very arbitrary about when the top young prospects are added to the pool. Like this year there are already many prospects listed, but there are always guys who emerge later in the season. Myers was a waiver pickup, so he was not added to the pool until the end of July last year. Why did Yahoo wait and not add him earlier, since he was well known before that? Why did they choose to add him then, when he never did get called up or play in an MLB game last year? Are waiver windfalls based on the whims of Yahoo in the best interest of the league? And in case anyone thinks I am bringing this up for my own personal benefit because of the number of moves I make: keep in mind that I picked up Victor Martinez and Adam Eaton towards the end of last year and they were both on my final roster. I could have kept either one of them, and considering how stupid my saving Hanley Ramirez with my 1 turned out (I could have had Tulo instead!), I probably should have kept one of them, but I just did not think it fair of me to do that. Such September pickups should simply come at a higher premium than a 17, so that there is a better chance that everyone has a shot at them in the draft instead (Martinez was a 5th round pick, and Eaton ended up going in the 8th). In proposed new system both Crawford and Myers would have slotted as 8th rounds for being August pickups. On the other hand if a manager makes a pickup early and keeps a guy all year, shouldn’t their foresight be rewarded a little? Zill picked up Aaron Hill on April 24 and kept him all year, but could only keep Hill as a 16-1/2; and Baltimore added Reddick way back on March 29 last year and kept him all season. Might Baltimore have considered keeping Reddick if he would have slotted better than a 17? I downloaded all of the transactions from the league website at the end of last season, and that is where the exact dates referred to above come from. If anyone would like to see the complete transaction files, just ask and I will send them to you. I volunteer to continue to download the transactions and process and provide that information to Mike for when the rosters and keeper lists are published in the off season. I was hoping that we could have a vote on a rule change for this before the MLB season starts next week. As long as we vote on it soon, I don’t see any harm to anyone in adopting this system right away if it passes. Feel free to add your feedback. I will post this on both the board and Yahoo and email it to try to bring it to everyone’s attention. Thanks again, Dennis
