Keeper penalties: Am I the only one last season that dropped a player with an additional year or two left on his contract? If anyone wants to research this feel free to do so. Just need to find out before the draft starts.

My program missed Jemile Weeks last night (too many Weeks on one team).
He was 17-Opt pre-season and so should be 15-1/3 on the draft and keeper lists, too.

Keeper penalties: Am I the only one last season that dropped a player with an additional year or two left on his contract? If anyone wants to research this feel free to do so. Just need to find out before the draft starts. The following players were dropped with time still remaining according to the pre-season rosters: Corey,Hart,OF,MIL,BEN, 12-2/3 Jeremy,Hellickson,P,TB,DUD, 15-2/3 Colby,Rasmus,OF,TOR,DUD, 16-2/3 Ian,Desmond,,,ROR, 15-2/3 Delmon,Young,OF,DET,ROR, 15-2/3 I have not compared to last year's rosters yet, but assuming the pre-season rosters were correct don't these get penalized as well?

OK, going back to the 2011 post-draft list (with 2011 contracts shown):
The following players were kept by their respective teams all last year and just dropped this past week. That means they would be entering the final year of their contract, so I assume there is no penalty since you are allowed to cut players in their final year:
Neftali,Feliz,P,TEX,COM, 15-2/3 Alex,Rios,OF,CWS,COM, 9-1/2 Brett,Anderson,P,OAK,DUD, 15-2/3 Huston,Street,P,COL,EXP, 18-2/3 Tim,Hudson,P,ATL,EXP, 23-1/2 Álex,Rodríguez,3B,NYY,OKY, 1-2/3 Victor,Martinez,C/1B,DET,OKY, 5-2/3 Chris B.,Young,OF,ARI,ROR, 16-1/2 Billy,Butler,1B,KC,ROR, 18-2/3 Francisco,Liriano,P,MIN,SBG, 19-1/2 Tommy,Hanson,P,ATL,ZIL, 20-2/3
But I show the following players as either not appearing on the pre-season rosters or being listed for a different team, which means they must have been cut by their 2011 owner before season’s end:
Kyle,Drabek,P,TOR,AUG, 25-1/3 Corey,Hart,OF,MIL,BEN, 12-1/3 Grady,Sizemore,OF,CLE,BEN, 16-1/2 Chris,Johnson,3B,HOU,BAL, 15-1/3 Brian,Matusz,P,BAL,BAL, 15-2/3 Jeremy,Hellickson,P,TB,DUD, 15-1/3 Mark,Buehrle,P,CWS,EXP, 22-2/3 Marco,Scutaro,SS,BOS,EXP, 21-2/3 Kurt,Suzuki,C,OAK,EXP, 20-2/3 Casey,McGehee,3B,MIL,GOT, 16-1/3 Pedro,Alvarez,3B,PIT,OKY, 15-1/3 Clay,Buchholz,P,BOS,OKY, 11-1/3 Ian,Desmond,SS,WAS,ROR, 15-1/3 Delmon,Young,OF,MIN,ROR, 15-1/3 Colby,Rasmus,OF,STL,ZIL, 16-1/3

Definitely should be penalty on those players with time left. If entering final year of contract, they must be kept entering the draft - or take penalty. If an L player (or 2/2, 3/3) is dropped anytime post-draft or during season - no penalty.
Yes, I was assuming a penalty pick for not keeping Liriano, entering final year of a 19th round contract.
Giancarlo Stanton!! Yea, he's my guy!

* "You may drop a keeper player in the last year of his contract without any penalty. There is a penalty for dropping a keeper player before the last year of his contract. "
According to the preseason rosters, Arod and Victor Martinez are in the last year of their contract and thus there would be no penalty.

Just have to be careful of players that were traded during the season like Rasmus. He actually penalizes my team not ZIL. Unless anyone else finds any errors in this list, this is what I will go with for the penalties. I will give everyone the rest of the day to look it over before making any changes to the files. Thanks for all your help. Maybe you should keep track of the penalty list going forward.

Yeah, I did not even think to take the trades into account.
I had meant to do all of this a lot earlier. I had actually downloaded the complete transaction history for each team the week after the season ended, because that stuff is not kept once Yahoo archives the league. But things have been really busy for me and then I had a couple of computers die in the last few months and I think I lost that data.
Hopefully sometime over the next year, though, I’ll manage to write some stuff to help automate our record keeping. After all, it only seems to me making my draft position better. 8)

Here is what I have in terms of penalties. Someone please double check my work.
Kyle,Drabek,P,TOR,AUG, 25-1/3 << 4 round penalty (2 x 2) Corey,Hart,OF,MIL,BEN, 12-1/3 << 2 round penalty (1 x 2) Grady,Sizemore,OF,CLE,BEN, 16-1/2 << 2 round penalty (1 x 2) Chris,Johnson,3B,HOU,BAL, 15-1/3 << 4 round penalty (2 x 2) Brian,Matusz,P,BAL,BAL, 15-2/3 << 2 round penalty (1 x 2) Jeremy,Hellickson,P,TB,DUD, 15-1/3 << 2 round penalty (1 x 2) Colby,Rasmus,OF,STL,DUD, 16-1/3 << 2 round penalty (1 x 2) Mark,Buehrle,P,CWS,EXP, 22-2/3 << 2 round penalty (1 x 2) Marco,Scutaro,SS,BOS,EXP, 21-2/3 << 2 round penalty (1 x 2) Kurt,Suzuki,C,OAK,EXP, 20-2/3 << 2 round penalty (1 x 2) Casey,McGehee,3B,MIL,GOT, 16-1/3 << 4 round penalty (2 x 2) Pedro,Alvarez,3B,PIT,OKY, 15-1/3 << 4 round penalty (2 x 2) Clay,Buchholz,P,BOS,OKY, 11-1/3 << 4 round penalty (2 x 2) Ian,Desmond,SS,WAS,ROR, 15-1/3 << 2 round penalty (1 x 2) Delmon,Young,OF,MIN,ROR, 15-1/3 << 2 round penalty (1 x 2)
Team Penalties Augusta forfeits 23th round pick Bensalem forfeits 23th round pick Baltimore forfeits 21nd round pick Team Dude forfeits 23th round pick Expos forfeits 21nd round pick Gotham forfeits 23th round pick Oklahoma forfeits 19th round pick Rogues forfeits 23th round pick
There is a penalty for dropping a keeper player before the last year of his contract. The penalty for dropping a keeper before the last year of his contract is, add up all the years left on contracts of all the keeper(s) you dropped, multiply this number by 2, and then subtract that number from 27 (number of players on team). Whatever this number comes out to be, you will then lose your draft pick in that round, and you will then make that pick at the end of the draft.
Any keeper slotted in to a forfeited round gets bumped down.

As long as the penalty is the same for every team, then it doesn't really matter. As it stands possible penalty rounds are 25th, 23rd, 21st, 19th, 17th, etc. ("odd" rounds beginning with the 25th). It could instead be "odd" rounds beginning with the 27th round. Or "even" rounds beginning with the 26th round.
Any word from Gotham or Bensalem. I assume they want to reconfigure or reassign a contract or two.
